EMERGENCE AND DEVELOPMENT OF VISUAL PROGRAMMING TOOLS AS AN ENVIRONMENT FOR EXPERIMENTS WITH NEW MEDIA

Abstract

The doctoral publication traces several major events that led to the emergence of visual programming tools in the art of the twentieth century. Without claiming absolute completeness, the text introduces the issues and possibilities of these new means of expression.

The first part describes how technologies and ideas from the beginning of the century changed the world of art forever. Some important cultural-historical processes are dealt with, such as the emergence of photography and cinema and the emergence of conceptual art, Dada and Fluxus. A few years later, the digital revolution took place. Computer hardware and software are entering all areas of modern life. Here, within the article, the text focuses on some of the more interesting concepts and terms from the world of early digital art, such as the science of cybernetics, the invention of the user interface, and concepts such as hypertext and virtuality. The computer is fast becoming an artistic tool and artists are beginning to experiment with digital structures and new media. This environment led to the emergence of the technique of visual programming, which provides more opportunities for creating and managing artistic content. At the end of the publication, a specific example of working with the TouchDesigner software platform is described. The text ends with a description of the logical principles in visual programming, which create a kind of connection between physical and virtual reality.
